Early this morning: Cloudy... rainy... some thunder and lightning in progress. Thunder and light showers started up again around 4:45am, with the rain becoming gradually heavier toward sunrise. I'm recording another 0.31" (8mm) of rain since last evening's report... and that brings our total to 0.84" (2.1cm) since all of this began early yesterday morning. Another story is the temperature... my low temp here in the upper part of town has been 52.2F (11.2C), which is the coolest since the 21st of March!
**UPDATE @ 8:34AM... 0.20" (5mm) of rain since the 7:30am report above. total now 1.04" (2.6cm) since Tuesday early AM.**
This current system is turning out to be all it was advertised to be... and maybe a little more. The center of the upper-level circulation is now located over Jammu, and should drift eastward ever-so-slowly today and tonight. That placement is going to keep us in line for more waves of showers and thunderstorms during the next 18 hours or so. Rainfall hasn't been all that heavy... but it has been more persistent than we're used to during this time of year. Also, due to the intensity of the system, much of the colder air aloft is being brought down to the surface, along with the rain, and that is keeping our temps quite a bit lower than expected. It seems we're definitely making up for the 2 weeks (+) of unseasonably warm weather we enjoyed during the last few days of March and the first nine days of April.!
By tomorrow, things will start to calm down a bit. However, with any sunshine and warming of the surface, we're going to generate more instability... since there will still be plenty of cold air in the upper-atmosphere. That combo will keep the potential for a few random showers and thunderstorms (mainly during the PM hours) in the forecast right into the weekend. A few hours of sun will allow temps to rebound back into the comfort zone... so don't drag out all the winter gear just yet...
