It's mostly cloudy at sunrise this morning. The temperature is a bit warmer than we've seen on the previous several mornings -- 63F (17C), while humidity is currently 93%. There was nothing in my rain gauge this morning, so the past 24 hours have only yielded 0.18" (5mm) of rain -- almost all of that happening yesterday during the early afternoon.
There are some very hopeful signs appearing on the extended range weather charts, but we've got to get through the next 48 hours or so before we have the slightest chance of experiencing any of that. It looks like we could see a round or two of moderate to heavy rainfall between later today (Wed) and early Friday, with computer model extrapolations pointing to perhaps 3" (7-8cm) or more in our general area. There's no evidence of imminent development as of right now, but just be prepared for some potentially ugly conditions over the course of the next couple of days.
The hopeful signs center around a rather dramatic reduction in the moisture content throughout all layers of the atmosphere starting late Friday, and continuing through Monday. Our air mass should dry out moreso than it has since way back in early June before we got slammed with the first wave of monsoon moisture. Lingering moisture along the mountains can spoil the show for us, despite a major drying trend... but it's something to look forward to as the weekend unfolds.
The yearly McLeod Ganj Mela is being set up on TCV Road just beyond the taxi stand, and will be getting underway shortly.
