Sunday's stats:
Low temp: 61.7F (16.5C)
High temp: 71.6F (22.0C)
Rainfall: 0.49" (1.2cm) -- updated at 7:45pm
This first day of September is ending very differently than it started. We had absolutely beautiful weather this morning, with lots of sunshine until around 11am, humidity dropping as low as 66%, and very pleasant temperatures. But clouds and fog began to take over by mid-day, which led to some scattered light rain showers by mid-afternoon. Then, some areas of very thick fog developed just prior to 5pm, with a relatively brief but heavy downpour of rain around 530pm. It remains very foggy as sunset approaches, with the threat of more showers.
Satellite pics show very little happening across Himachal Pradesh, apart from the band of thick clouds, fog, and embedded showers which are hugging the front slopes of the Dhauladhars. You wouldn't have to go very far in any direction to break out into sunshine this evening. This is a very typical scenario for us, not only during the monsoon season, but at virtually any time of the year. Moisture can easily get trapped here along the southwest-facing mountains, no matter what the more large-scale weather pattern is doing.
We might look forward to a repeat performance of today during the coming two or three days. That means morning sunshine, a mid-day build-up of clouds and fog, and some mainly PM downpours of rain. There should be some good laundry-drying weather, if you can manage to take advantage of the AM sun and lower humidity, and then get things gathered in before the showers descend.
Tabs with useful info above include MONSOON'S END?, the CURRENT FORECAST, and the updated rainfall tally for the season.
