It's overcast at sunrise this Monday morning, with a temperature of 62F (16.7C) and humidity at 87%. I've recorded no additional rainfall since last evening... there were a few sprinkles here and there, but not enough to measure in the rain gauge. That keeps yesterday's total at 1.71" (4.3cm).
We are definitely getting into the final stages of the monsoon season, as the really deep, thick and juicy tropical moisture continues to retreat from most of northern India. Despite the much lower average humidity readings, and the reduced moisture available in the mid- and upper levels of the atmosphere, we still haven't dried out enough to prevent daily bouts of shower and thundershower development along the front slopes of the mountains. In fact, it looks like we could still pick up some locally heavy amounts of rain from downpours virtually any day this week. Most of the rain since September began has occurred between about 11am and 6pm or so -- but as we saw yesterday morning, that's certainly not a hard and fast rule. Just continue to be prepared for a sudden dumping of rain at any time.
The first declaration of monsoon withdrawal should come today -- for western Rajasthan and maybe parts of Punjab and Gujarat. I'll post details on that monumental event this evening.
