A new month, and a new view out the window early this morning. Skies are mostly clear to kick off September, and I'm looking forward to seeing the sun peek over the mountain tops in just a few minutes. The temperature is the coolest I've recorded since mid-July -- I have 62.2F (16.8C), after an early morning low of 61.7C (16.5C). Humidity is currently 87% (and falling). The total rainfall for yesterday (Saturday) ended up being 1.05" (2.7cm), giving us a total of 38.05" (96.6cm) for the month of August.
The monsoon has not left us, but the look and feel of this air mass this morning is definitely a preview of things to come. There's even a light breeze stirring the air in a rather fall-like manner. A little circulation in the upper-atmosphere is moving across northern India right now, and has conveniently pushed the deep tropical moisture off to the east, temporarily. This is the drying trend we've been discussing and anticipating, and I'm happy to see that it has indeed materialized. We are in need of a break!
The sun is still going to have to share the sky with periods of clouds and fog during the next few days, and there will still be a good chance of the development of some scattered showers and thundershowers. BUT -- things are looking better than we've seen in a while for these first two or three days of September. By the middle of the week, monsoon moisture should be thickening up again, with rising humidity, diminishing sun, and increasing rainfall rates.
