season's coolest... (pm.24.oct.12)>

Wednesday's stats:

Early morning low temp: 46.9F (8.3C) - during rain at about 1:00am
Afternoon high temp: 62.2F (16.8C)
Rainfall: 0.35" (0.9cm)

According to my records, today has been the coldest day since 15 March, when we had a high of 62.2F (16.8C) -- equal to today -- and a low of 46.2F (7.9C).  Before the sunshine got to work melting the snow this morning, there was a slushy accumulation on the ground well below Triund, which is quite abnormal this early in the season.  Last night's storm was definitely something to remember!

That intense upper-level disturbance has dissipated as it has moved eastward during the past 12 hours or so, leaving us with a west-northwesterly flow aloft, ushering in the coolest temperatures of the season.  Very cold air in the upper-atmosphere in combination with sun-warmed air closer to the surface during the afternoons could create a bit of instability -- we'll have to keep an eye on it, but at this point I think all we'll see is some of the usual PM cloud development over the mountains.  Otherwise, the sun should be in control right through the weekend, tempering the chilly air during the daytime.

A building ridge of high pressure, starting late Saturday into Sunday, is going to get a nice warming trend going for us.  Right now, it seems likely that temps will be rising back ABOVE normal as next week arrives.
