Tuesday's stats:
Early morning low temp: 56.8F (13.8C)
Afternoon high temp: 67.6F (19.8C)
Rainfall: none
A beautiful, mostly clear and cool evening is underway. I've been surprised that we haven't been able to get any rain showers in the immediate McLeod area during the past couple of days as our upper-level disturbance passed overhead. The system has delivered some cooler air, but failed miserably in stirring up any measurable rainfall. Despite the turbulence/instability in the atmosphere, apparently our dry air mass couldn't provide enough moisture to get anything going.
We'll be coming under the influence of a brisk west-to-east flow in the middle and upper-levels of the atmosphere for the remainder of the week. There could still be some passing pockets of instability that could produce an isolated/random thundershower over the mountains during the afternoons -- otherwise we should be in line for plenty of sunshine and pleasantly cool autumn conditions through Friday. There are hints of another upper-air disturbance arriving by Saturday. But -- if this last disturbance was unable to stir up any rainfall, then it seems unlikely that we'll see much action with the next one either.
The 4-5F (2-3C) drop in temperatures since Monday afternoon isn't much, but it has definitely been noticeable. We may see another drop of a few degrees by early next week, to put us exactly where we should be during this time of year.
