Friday's stats:
Low temp: 46.8F (8.2C)
High temp: 57.0F (13.9C)
Precipitation: none
A few traces of high clouds are starting to show up in the western sky just after sunset this evening, at the end of a 100% sunny day. This is the kind of January weather which is not all that uncommon, really... but our memories tend to get overshadowed by the cloudy, cold, rainy and snowy stuff which this month is also known for. My high temp in the upper part of town was way above average, and the warmest since the middle of December. Humidity was generally below 40% all day, providing some great laundry-drying conditions.
Unfortunately, this taste of mild, calm and quiet weather is not going to last, as the ridge of high pressure responsible for it is already breaking down. An upper-level disturbance will be knocking on the door tomorrow, then sweep across northern India on Sunday into early Monday. Very limited moisture will keep rain/snow chances quite low, but we will be seeing an increase in clouds and a rather dramatic drop in temperatures over the weekend.
It's looking seasonably cold but probably dry early next week, in anticipation of a developing storm system which should bring us the next risk of significant rain and/or snow by Wednesday. Computer model data is already pointing toward a lot of precipitation breaking out across northern India during the Wednesday to Friday time frame -- but that is certainly a long way into the future and there are going to be all kinds of shifts and readjustments in the projections between now and then.
