a nicer picture... (am.02.jan.14)>

Mostly clear skies await the rising sun on this second morning of 2014.  The humidity has been steadily dropping overnight, and it's now down to 39% -- indicating that the lingering moisture associated with our recent storm system has departed for the most part.  Milder air is beginning to show up at our elevation, as my overnight low temp of 41.5F (5.3C) occurred around midnight, and it's now up to 43.7F (6.5C).

Pleasant wintertime weather is in store for us during the next couple of days, thanks to a building ridge of high pressure in the mid- and upper-levels of the atmosphere which will provide some milder temperatures.  It's winter inversion season though, which means a shallow layer of cold air will be trapped in the lower elevations below us, and with the milder air above, there will likely be some extensive areas of fog down on the plains.  Up here we should see a good amount of sunshine, and temperatures rising a couple of degrees above normal for early January -- both today and Friday.

The next disturbance will move into the western Himalayan region over the weekend, ushering in a fresh batch of colder air, especially by Sunday into Monday.  Right now it looks like there will be little or no precipitation associated with this system, apart from some scattered snow showers well to our north in Kashmir.
