*Update @ 10:10am... Clouds have developed and thickened up dramatically during the past hour or so, and it looks to me like we could be seeing some shower development. Apparently this incoming upper-level disturbance is succeeding in pulling some moisture up from the south.
-----------------------------------------------------------
There are a few patchy clouds in the area as the sun rises on this Saturday morning, and we've had some gusty winds kicking up during the past couple of hours. The humidity reading is 37%, and I'm recording an overnight low of 43.7F (6.5C) here on Tushita Road below the mountaineering center. There has been no precipitation overnight.
A broad ridge of high pressure provided us with sunny skies and mild early January temperatures the last couple of days... but the weather pattern is shifting again. An upper-level disturbance is dropping in from the northwest, and will be with us over the weekend as it steers the next batch of colder air into northern India. There's not much of a moisture tap with this system, however, so we shouldn't see more than an increase in clouds, occasionally gusty winds, and perhaps some stray rain and/or snow showers in the higher elevations over the course of the next 36-48 hours or so. It's not impossible that we could get a rain shower here in McLeod -- maybe tonight or on Sunday -- we'll have to watch to see if that threat becomes anything greater.
Of greater concern is the scenario shaping up for the latter half of next week. It looks like we could be dealing with some kind of winter storm system developing over Pakistan and northwest India by Wednesday, bringing significant rain and snow for at least a couple of days. But it's January, and this is the time for those kinds of things.!
