*Update @ 8:35am... Have had a few flakes of snow just now. The air is very frigid just above, so if we do get some some more significant precipitation later today, the temp should fall quickly -- with snow and/or ice pellets more likely than rain.
---------------------------------------------------------
It's mostly cloudy and rather hazy with 42% humidity at sunrise this morning. I'm recording an overnight low temp of 39.6F (4.2C) here on Tushita Road just below the mountaineering center. There has been no precipitation since last report.

A very compact but tightly wound upper-level circulation centered over southern Afghanistan this morning will move across central Pakistan today, and be near Chandigarh by this time tomorrow morning. Already we're seeing our air mass become more and more unstable, due to very cold air in the upper-atmosphere associated with this system. We've got a moderate amount of moisture hanging around -- but it remains to be seen whether or not there will be enough to fuel any significant rain, sleet and snow showers later today into tonight and early Saturday morning as this system sweeps through. Since we'll remain on the north side of the circulation center itself, it may put us in a better position to get at least a couple of hours of precipitation overnight -- most likely in the form of snow. We could also see the coldest temperatures of the season tonight into Saturday morning.
The upper-air pattern will begin to change dramatically again by late Saturday, as this system moves quickly off to the east, and a ridge of high pressure starts to build over northwest India. This will allow temperatures to rebound into the above normal range for the middle of January during much of next week. There is, however, a risk of a couple of passing showers -- especially on Monday -- as another weak disturbance ripples through.
