winter-like chill... (pm.03.mar.15)>

Tuesday's stats:

Low temp: 36.5F (2.5C)
High temp: 47.3F (8.5C)
Rainfall since 7:00am: 0.29" (7mm)
Rainfall since Sunday aftn: 3.99" (10.1cm)

One of our classically mysterious and beautiful McLeod Ganj evenings is underway, with glimpses of sunshine visible in the west, while thundershowers with small hail, sleet and snow continue to hug the Dhauladhars to the northeast.  There have been a few sprinkles of rain lingering here in town during the past few minutes.  Our Tuesday turned out pretty much as expected, with some partial clearing at times, but also some scattered shower/thunder action -- mainly late this afternoon.  We even had an impressive period of small hail and soft snow pellets between roughly 4:10 and 4:40pm.  Temperatures were miles below normal for early March.

An unstable air mass remains across north India, in the wake of our recent storm system.  Temperatures in the upper atmosphere are not much warmer than they are in the very middle of the winter season, while milder air lurks not far to our south in the lower levels.  That contrast has kept clouds and showers percolating here along the front ranges of the mountains today.  It's looking significantly more calm and quiet later tonight through tomorrow, and even into most of Thursday, however.  There will probably be some cloud issues to deal with, but it's also likely that we'll see more sunshine than we've been able to enjoy since last Saturday.  Temperatures will begin a slow warming trend.

A weak disturbance may stir up a few rain showers Thursday night into Friday, but then it's starting to look like we may have to deal with ANOTHER significant storm system as early as late Sunday, lasting into next Tuesday!  People keep asking me when the rain is going to stop... and I say, "When does the rain EVER completely stop in McLeod Ganj?"
