water-weary... (pm.07.aug.13)>

Wednesday's stats:

Low temp: 64.0F (17.8C)
High temp: 68.5F (20.3C)
Rainfall since 7am: 0.18" (5mm)
24 hour rainfall: 1.83" (4.6cm)

The brightest weather of the past several days is happening right now, as we approach sunset.  There have been some brief glimpses of sunshine since around 4:40pm as the clouds and fog have broken up a bit.  Although we had some fairly heavy rain overnight, rainfall has been generally light today, with only some light showers and occasional drizzle amounting to less than a quarter of an inch at my location.

I've heard three separate reports of landslides and washed-out roads today.  One report referenced the area between McLeod and Dharamsala in the vicinity of Clouds End, one from the Army Cantonment below Forsyth Ganj, and the other from the Chamba area.  Apparently, all roads are passable heading down from McLeod, but just be aware of some dodgy spots and some very unstable ground that could easily give way if we end up getting more heavy rain in the near future.  I saw photos of the landslide near the Army Cantt., and it looks like several trees and some buildings were swept downhill, though the road was unaffected.

I'm not sure how long this lull in the action is going to continue... we may get away with some lower rainfall totals during the next 36 to 48 hours or so before more waves of heavy rain develop and continue through the weekend.  Thus far, August has been a lousy laundry-drying month -- it would be nice to get a few hours of lower humidity, but conditions don't look very favorable for that.
