Skies are mostly cloudy at sunrise on this Sunday morning with a temperature of 66.3F (19.1C) and humidity at 92%. The heavy rain of last evening shut down pretty quickly, and I've had nothing new in the rain gauge since about 9:20pm. Yesterday's total ended up being 1.94" (4.9cm) -- the vast majority of that occurring between 5 and 9pm. Although it was less rain than I recorded during the first two days of August, it was an above average daily amount, nonetheless.
The game has definitely changed since August arrived. Even though we've been supposedly in a weaker phase of the monsoon since late Friday, there have still been some areas of very heavy rain developing in isolated areas along the front slopes of the mountains, and we just happened to be right underneath one of those yesterday afternoon and evening. Most other parts of Himachal missed out. Anyway, there's the potential for another one of those gully-washer downpours today, but also a good chance of getting some glimpses of sunshine once again.
Data this morning remains consistent in bringing in the next major surge of monsoon moisture starting on Monday, and lasting through Wednesday. Right now, computer models are targeting Tuesday and Tuesday night as the prime time for extremely heavy rainfall in our area. We'll have to keep on eye on it as the new week unfolds.
