The rainfall rate, at least here in the upper part of town, has dropped off significantly since this time yesterday morning. My rain gauge shows 0.59" (1.5cm) overnight, adding up to a 24-hour total of 0.77" (2.0cm). That's not much compared to what we've been getting this month so far, but still a fairly respectable amount. It's another gray and gloomy morning out there -- with lots of fog and occasional light rain showers. Humidity is 100%, and the temp is right around 66F (18.9C).
There was quite a bit of chatter around town yesterday about landslides and deteriorating road conditions, due to the persistent heavy rains we've had since the beginning of August. It's tough to keep on top of each and every situation, but not too difficult to simply be careful and cautious as you travel around during this period of water-logged and over-saturated conditions. We deal with this every monsoon season -- it's just part of the package. As far as I know, roads remain passable between McLeod and Dharamsala, and I'm sure word will get around very quickly if that changes.
As far as the weather itself is concerned, we remain in the very thick of classic mid-monsoon conditions. There are some slight variations from day to day and some minor difference between computer models, but overall, it appears that our recent very wet pattern is going to hang around. There will be some short breaks and brighter moments from time to time, but be aware of the potential for periods of heavy rain at any time, day or night, over the course of the next several days.
