Tuesday's stats:
Low temp: 64.6F (18.1C)
High temp: 68.0F (20.0C)
Rainfall since midnight: 3.11" (7.9cm) -- as of 7:40pm
We have cloudy skies, thick fog, and light rain in progress this evening. It has definitely been one of the soggier days of this monsoon season, with a couple of extended periods of moderate to heavy rain this morning, and again during the afternoon. Fortunately, the 3+ inches of rain have come steadily instead of all at once, and that has prevented the gullies and nullahs from getting overwhelmed -- at least from what I've seen here around town. Needless to say, humidity has been near 100% all day, and temperatures have barely budged.
It's kind of hard to recall the weather we were dealing with this time last week, with some very nice blasts of sunshine, humidity dropping as low as 70-75%, and only minor amounts of rainfall for several days in a row. All of that has certainly faded into history with the very muscular surges of tropical moisture and instability that we've been dealing with since the arrival of August. Although there will undoubtedly be some breaks in the rain during the days ahead, I have to say that there appears to be no significant retreat of deep, strong monsoon conditions on the horizon -- right through the weekend.
I haven't done all the math just yet, but I think after only 6 days of August,we're already half-way to the total rainfall amount for the entire month of July. Of course downhill in Dharamsala they continue to get dumped on big-time, and are way way ahead of us up-mountain people.
