monsoon monotony... (am.12.aug.13)>

*Update @ 2:05pm... Drizzle and very light rain showers have turned into more steady, slightly heavier rain since around 11:30am.  Here in the upper part of town I've recorded 0.38" (1cm), making a total of 0.47" (1.2cm) since midnight.  We've had a little thunder as well during the past hour.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
I've got clouds and quite a lot of fog outside my window early on this Monday morning, which is pretty much what's to be expected in the middle of August.  There were a couple of periods of light rain and drizzle overnight, but I've recorded just 0.09" (2mm), bringing the 24-hour total up to 0.52" (1.3cm).  Humidity this morning is 100%, and the temperature is 65.5F (18.6C).

There are no large areas of rain evident across northern India this morning, according to satellite pics, but there is extensive cloudiness and a couple of isolated thundershowers.  The flow in the lower and mid-levels of the atmosphere continues to bringing in gobs of tropical moisture up against the mountains, while the flow in the upper-levels is barely a flow at all -- nearly dead calm at times.  This means that we'll most likely remain in this moist soup, with occasional downpours to break the monotony.

Computer models have backed off a bit, in terms of showing us under the gun for widespread heavy rainfall.  We'll have to keep an eye on that today and see if it's just a temporary glitch in the data, or if we're really not in for that anticipated increase in rainfall rates this week.  At any rate, there is no significant pattern change on the horizon that would relieve us of this high humidity for more than perhaps a few hours at a time... and sudden periods of rain could still occur both day and night.
