a pleasant weekend... (pm.25.mar.11)>

skies are mostly clear again just before sunset this evening, after a 100% sunny morning, but a rapid development of clouds (along with thunder and a few sprinkles) during the mid-afternoon hours.  we reached a high temp of 73.9F (23.3C)... about the same as yesterday.

i was quite surprised that there was enough instability (due to cold air aloft) to trigger so much cloudiness over the mountains this afternoon... much less the rumbling thunder between about 2:45 and 3:30pm.  it was an interesting punctuation mark in the middle of an otherwise gorgeous day.  temperatures should be warming a bit in the upper atmosphere tomorrow, which will theoretically stifle the convective development... but still, this is the time of year when mountain thundershowers can occur on almost any given day.  anything more than a couple of sprinkles of rain are unlikely in mcleod, however.

the upper-air flow will become more and more disturbed as we head into the first part of next week.  although there is no indication of any really noteworthy storminess, there will be a better chance of some scattered showers and thundershowers in the forecast, especially on monday.  temperatures should remain pretty close to (or slightly above) where they've been for the last several days...
