clouds, rain risk... (am.19.mar.11)>

HAPPY HOLI!

totally overcast skies greet us this morning, with a temp of 61.7F (16.5C).  it has been a bit breezy at times during the pre-dawn hours, and we've had a few light sprinkles of rain around the area.

it looks like we're in for a rather dismal day, compared to what we enjoyed for most of the past week.  satellite photos show lots of multi-layered cloudiness across the western himalayan region, thanks to a significant upper-level disturbance which is now spinning its way into northern pakistan.  we will remain under the influence of this system until sometime tomorrow (sunday), keeping us under the potential for some rain showers, and possible thunderstorms.  precipitation should be scattered and light for the most part, but we can't rule out a short period of moderate to heavy rainfall between now and sunday afternoon.  once again, if you plan to be in the mountains this weekend, be prepared for a rapid turn to cold and wet weather, should storms develop.

temperatures will be quite a bit cooler today and sunday... but a slow and gradual moderating trend is expected next week.

SATURDAY: clouds, with a few peeks of sun possible.  good chance of a few rain showers and perhaps a thunderstorm.  cooler...
high: 20C (68F)

SATURDAY NIGHT: good chance of a period or two of showers and storms.  otherwise, mostly cloudy.
low: 14C (58F)

SUNDAY: partly to mostly cloudy skies.  a couple of lingering showers/thundershowers possible.
high: 19C (67F)

MONDAY: sunny to partly cloudy and pleasant.
high: 21C (69F)

TUESDAY: sunshine and a few clouds.
high: 21C (70F)

WEDNESDAY: partly cloudy... slight chance of a PM shower (mainly over the mtns).
high: 21C (70F)
