showers still lurking... (am.05.jun.15)>

At this very moment, it's mostly cloudy, but there has been a lot of variability in the sky condition just in the past 45 minutes or so.  At this moment, the temperature is 67.1F (19.5C), but temps have also been fluctuating madly overnight -- my low here in the upper part of town has been 58.6F (14.8C).  Also at this moment, there is no rain, but we've had off-and-on thunder, gusty winds and light showers during the wee hours of the morning.  My rain gauge shows 0.06" (2mm) from that overnight activity.

This week of volatility has kept us dealing with long periods of cloudiness and occasional showers and thundershowers, but believe it or not, there's only been 0.70" (1.8cm) of rain in total here at my location.  That amount of rain can easily fall in less than a half hour once we get into monsoon season!

On average, this is the very middle of the hottest time of the year in McLeod Ganj, but this year we're being spared.  This very awkward and sluggish upper-level low pressure circulation that settled in on Monday has barely moved at all since then -- its center is still located close to the Punjab/Pakistan border.  The lower layers of the atmosphere are warming up, but with pools of unseasonably cold air aloft, we're not able to get rid of this instability which continues to generate scattered showers/thunder.  It's now a waiting game, as we watch for the atmosphere to balance out and settle down as this system continues to spin itself out.  That should be happening shortly -- but even now, thunder is rumbling.

If you're missing the hot weather though, it will be on its way back over the weekend into early next week.  An aggressive push of a summertime high pressure ridge will boost our temperatures in a major way, and it's still looking like the hottest weather of the season may be lurking by Tuesday into Wednesday.
