welcome rainfall... (pm.12.jan.13)>

Saturday's stats:

Low temp: 44.2F (6.8C) -- 10:10am
High temp: 55.6F (13.1C) -- 3:15pm
Rainfall: 0.39" (1.0cm) -- updated @ 8:15pm

We have cloudy skies just after sunset this evening, and there have been more light showers during the past half hour or so.  Although there were some short-lived sunny breaks, today has been dominated by clouds and off-and-on showers which delivered rainfall amounts very close to computer model projections.  This is the first measurable rain since the 16th of December, putting an end to our winter drought.  Despite the clouds and rain, temperatures remain a few degrees above normal, making it feel more like a late February weather event.

Satellite pics are showing no evidence of any decisive clearing trend yet, and that means we'll see a good amount of clouds and perhaps a few more light rain showers overnight.  By tomorrow, the disorganized remnants of this storm system will be mostly east of here, giving us a better chance of some longer periods of sunshine.  Generally quiet conditions are expected on Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures cooling back down closer to normal for the middle of January, but still not uncomfortably cold.

I'm really enjoying watching the various computer model solutions for the latter half of the new week.  This evening, there is widespread agreement on the development of a strong area of low pressure just to our west over Pakistan between Wednesday and Friday.  It looks like (at this early stage) there will be plenty of moisture from the Arabian Sea being pulled northward, while some of the coldest air of the winter season spills southward.  That combination spells a very wet and wintry scenario for us, should those extended-range forecasts prove true.
