post-storm analysis... (pm.19.jan.13)>

Update @ 7:53pm...  The sky is already filled with stars, after our short round of light rain/sleet/snow showers between 4:30 and about 5:45pm.  All peaceful and calm...
------------------------------------------------------

Saturday's stats:

Early morning low temp: 32.7F (0.4C)
Afternoon high temp: 44.2F (6.8C)
Melted precipitation: 0.68" (1.7cm)
Snow: 6.5" (16.5cm)

**Total liquid /melted precipitation since Thursday morning: 2.18" (5.5cm)**

It is mostly cloudy this evening, with some light showers of rain, sleet and snow roaming the slopes of the Dhauladhars during the past couple of hours.  Otherwise, we had a good amount of sunshine today, which did quite a job melting the several inches of snow from the overnight hours.  Snowfall reports ranged from around 4" (10cm) near the Temple, to 5" (13cm) in the middle of McLeod, to 6-7" (15-18cm) in the upper part of town, to about 1 foot (30cm) in Dharamkot, and finally, nearly 2 feet (61cm) above Galu Temple.  I haven't heard any first-hand reports about Triund, but there is likely close to 3 feet of new snow up there.  If you had a chance to see the fresh snow at dawn this morning, you know how gorgeous it was.

Lingering instability in the upper-atmosphere following our recent very dynamic storm system triggered those showers late this afternoon and early evening, but it's very likely that they'll quickly die away this evening, with clouds dissipating by 8pm.  And that will lead to the return of a quiet and basically uneventful weather pattern for most of the coming week.  There will be a weak upper-level disturbance passing through late Tuesday into Wednesday, but nothing more than some clouds and perhaps a random shower are expected as it passes through.

Temperatures are now a couple of degrees below normal for mid-January.  A gradual return to milder conditions will occur over the course of the next few days, though there is no warming trend of spring-time proportions on the way in our immediate future.
