potential for wetness... (pm.11.jan.13)>

Friday's stats:

Early morning low temp: 42.1F (5.6C)
Afternoon high temp: 56.1F (13.4C)
Rainfall: none

High clouds are on the increase across the area this evening, but most of our Friday was sunny, with just a few wisps of high clouds at times.  My high temp in the upper part of town was the warmest since the week before Christmas, and several degrees above normal for the middle of January.  In fact, I'd say that today was about as nice and comfortable as it ever gets during what is, historically and climatologically speaking, the very coldest part of the year.

What's left of a Middle-Eastern storm system is just nudging into the western Himalayas tonight, and will bring us a fairly decent chance of some rain shower action on Saturday into Saturday night.  I was surprised this evening to see that the array of computer models are still in agreement that we could pick up around 1cm (0.40") of rain in our area during the next 36 hours.  Considering the totally dry scenario we've been trapped in for the past 25 days or so, it's hard to accept the idea of rain, but it will be interesting to see what happens as this dying system moves through.  This mild air mass should keep the snow line well above Dharamkot and Naddi, if precipitation does indeed develop here.

The early part of next week should be quiet, if slightly cooler... but then we have some very interesting prospects on the horizon starting on Wednesday.  The upper-level pattern favors the development of a very deep and strong area of low pressure just to our west over Afghanistan and Pakistan, which should bring a combination of colder temperatures and increasing moisture to north India.  Maybe plenty of winter ahead?
