It's been another day of soothing sunshine, but our air mass continues to cool down by increments, so if you weren't able to take advantage of the sun -- it was cold. Temperatures since the start of 2013 have been very close to normal for the season.
Widespread low cloudiness and fog are sprawled out to our south... from central Pakistan across Punjab, Haryana, the Delhi NCR, and into the western half of Uttar Pradesh. This is typical for early January, thanks to a shallow layer of colder air trapped below slightly milder air aloft. But up here at 6000ft/1800m, we are above all that, and have been able to enjoy the winter sunshine for another day. The only changes in our near future center around a series of weak upper-level disturbances which will begin to drop southeastward into northern India later tonight, and provide us with a little instability as the weekend arrives. Expect an increase in clouds for Friday into Saturday... but DON'T expect any significant rain or snowfall. A few sprinkles or a passing light shower can't be ruled out, but chances even of that are only slight.
There's also virtually no chance of an appreciable warm-up during the coming several days, as a flow of seasonably cold air from central Asia continues to dominate the western Himalayan region. If anything, we'll likely cool down another degree or two (or three) by Sunday, with nearly steady temps thereafter.
