harsh reality... (am.11.dec.12)>

Update @ 12:49pm... We had another round of rain which was mixed with snow all the way down to the main market in McLeod at around 11am, but there has been a great deal of improvement in the last hour or so.  I now have 0.33" (8mm) for the day's total rainfall, and a current temp of 45.1F (7.3C).  A beautiful coating of fresh snow just above town...

Update @ 9:32am... The rain gauge shows 0.17" (4mm) up here -- and the thermometer shows a new low of 39.7F (4.3C)!  There is a clearing line not far to our west, but with the circulation around this disturbance continuing to draw moisture from the south, it will be touch-and-go for several more hours...

*Update @ 840am... Clouds are lifting enough to reveal a snowline that is hovering precariously just above upper Dharamkot.  Rain has stopped here at my location at the moment, but it's cloudy and breezy.

*Update @ 815am... New data coming in this morning suggests that the upper-level disturbance just northwest of us is becoming more intense, as it draws a healthy swath of moisture northward across most of Himachal.  I've already got 0.13" (3mm) in the rain gauge since the light rain began at 630am.  It's 40.9F (4.9C) here on Tushita Road below the mountaineering center.

------------------------------------
My current temp (at 7:23am) is 41.9F (5.5C) -- which is also the overnight/early morning low.  It is cloudy with some patches of light rain around the area as well.  I'm sure snow is falling not too far above us, but the clouds are hanging low and I can't see a thing much above Dharamkot.

The cold air which has been gradually seeping in since the weekend has now been joined by an upper-level disturbance lurking just to our northwest.  This disturbance has drawn a modest amount of moisture northward ahead of it, thus the light rain development this morning.  Rainfall amounts should be less than about 0.20"/5mm today, but still, it will be the most precipitation in the rain gauge since the 29th of November.

We may get lucky and get some glimpses of sunshine later today as this system edges to the east, but if not, temperatures will likely remain below 50F (10C) all day. Welcome back to winter!
