Tuesday's stats:
Early morning low temp: 47.8F (8.8C)
Afternoon high temp: 57.7F (14.3C) -- around 2:00pm
Rainfall: none
There are a few lingering clouds around the area at sunset this evening, as temps quickly drop from the very mild readings of the early to mid-afternoon. The main footprint of the upper-level disturbance which moved through last night and earlier today was the gusty winds during the pre-dawn hours. But other than a few snow showers higher up in the mountains, I am not aware of any precipitation at all down here where most of us live. It turned out to be a very pleasant Tuesday after all.
Many people were chased away by the wet and cold weather late last week, but things have been turning steadily since Sunday, and we've now had a couple of days with temperature actually balancing out above normal for mid-December. And more than that -- it looks like we're in line for some nearly picture-perfect early wintertime conditions during the next several days. The flow in the mid- and upper-levels is turning to the west-northwest, ushering in a very dry air mass that will have a lot of trouble yielding any rain or snowfall until at least early next week. We'll have to keep an eye out for the potential for some occasional high cloudiness, but the sunshine should dominate the majority of our daylight hours.
Temperatures will cool down slightly from the super-mildness of the last couple of days, but will be right in the range of normal (or perhaps a shade above) as we transition into the final 1/3 of the month. Let's see how long we'll be able to get away with this before our next winter reality check appears...
