The July sky is mostly clear yet again early this morning, though we do have some light haze. My low temperature here on Tushita Road just below the mountaineering center has been 67.1F (19.5C), and there was no rainfall overnight. Humidity is a bit higher this morning -- currently 64%.
Well we've picked up a decent amount of rain the last two afternoons -- a total of 2.56" (6.5cm) in the upper part of town -- but this atmosphere is still a far cry from genuine/classic monsoon conditions. Normally by this time, the air mass is saturated throughout the lower and middle levels (up to about 13,000ft/4000m or so), keeping us in the clouds and fog for the vast majority of the time, both day and night. Obviously that's not happening, and we're still getting a good amount of sunshine each and every day, which is heating things up and contributing to the afternoon thundershower development along the mountains. Anyway, I keep telling myself to stop complaining, since there will certainly be plenty of REAL monsoon conditions to come in the next couple of months.!
All the computer model data this morning is showing much deeper moisture lurking to our southeast -- as near as parts of Uttarakhand -- which will be creeping northwestward over the course of the next few days. It will be interesting to see if we'll have a more dramatic turn to cloudiness, fog, and increasing rains sometime between perhaps tomorrow (Sat) night and Monday or Tuesday. In the meantime, our temps are running well above normal, and won't really cool off until the clouds/fog put an end to these extended sunny periods.
