Wednesday's stats:
Low temp: 63.0F (17.2C)
High temp: 79.7F (26.5C)
Rainfall: 2.11" (5.4cm)
We have a variety of mainly mid- and high level cloudiness around the area this evening, though there is enough clearing in the east to see the moon peeking through. The main event today was a period of rain and thunder between about 1:00 and 4:00pm, which was most intense from about 1:35 until 2:00pm -- I recorded 1.8" (4.6cm) in that short 25 minute period, which is the vast amount of the entire total for the afternoon. After a few days in a row of very light rainfall, it was about time to get a downpour like that. The high temp (check stats above) occurred just before noon, with the low occurring during the mid-afternoon showers.
It's still very odd that our average humidity is remaining well below the saturation point this deep into July, which is keeping us from getting the pervasive fog which is normally common by now. That situation may be gradually changing as we progress through the weekend into early next week, however, as computer models are forecasting a steady increase in the moisture content of our air mass by that time. Today we picked up a very healthy amount of rain, but we're still dealing with only scattered areas of precipitation here across Himachal Pradesh -- which should continue on and off over the course of the coming few days. With some periods of sun, our temperatures should remain generally warmer than normal for this time of year.
A taste of more classic monsoon conditions, featuring humidity readings above 85%, fog, and more long-lasting, persistent rains could be on the cards for us as early as this weekend -- but some of the data is still delaying all that until late Monday or Tuesday. Of course we'll continue to watch...
