There are only a few clouds around, but it is quite hazy as the sun peeks over the Dhauladhars early this morning. I heard more thunder for awhile very early this morning -- around 3-3:30am or so -- but there was no additional rain in my gauge here in the upper part of town. The overnight low has been 66.7F (19.3C), and the current humidity reading is 69%.
I've measured a total of 0.20" (5mm) of rain in the past three days, and that's a pathetic amount for a three-day period in early July. It's rare to go more than three or four days without picking up at least an inch of rain this time of year -- so let's see what we might be able to come up with this afternoon. Although there is the likelihood of more isolated/scattered rain shower and thunder activity during mainly the PM hours during the coming few days, we remain in a very weak phase of the monsoon, and I'm still not seeing conditions that are favorable for long-lasting, consistent and persistent heavy rainfall.
All of the computer models are showing some degree of resurgence of deeper moisture and better dynamics for genuine monsoon conditions to develop perhaps as early as Saturday, but more likely sometime during the first part of next week. Even so, at this point, there doesn't appear to be anything particularly ominous on the horizon. Temperatures, by the way, should be warming up a few degrees between today and Friday.
