Tuesday's stats:
Low temp: 56.1F (13.4C)
High temp: 69.3F (20.7C)
Rainfall: 0.30" (8mm)
We'll call it partly cloudy just before sunset this evening, at the end of a noteworthy day. Although we had some glimpses of sunshine early this morning, thunder was rumbling and threatening from the very start, leading to a significant period of showers between roughly 10:00am and 12:30pm. I recorded a bit less than a third of an inch of rain at my location on Tushita Road just below the mountaineering center, but it seemed like there may have been more than that in the middle of McLeod. Nice sunshine returned by 3:00pm and has stuck around through the remainder of the afternoon -- but we missed out on the sun for most of best potential warming hours of the day, and that kept my high temp from reaching 70F for the first time since Easter Sunday.
There have been scattered showers and thundershowers roaming the Himalayan mountains and foothills for several days now, but they have been rather hit-and-miss. Well, today was our day to get HIT. It wasn't a huge amount of rain we received, but it certainly was an indication of the kind of unstable situation we find ourselves locked into recently. The upper-air flow and overall pattern is stagnant and not expected to change much over the course of the coming several days, so we're going to have to continue this shower/thundershower dodging routine -- though there should always be at least a few hours of sun on any given day as well.
Our temps indeed took a hit today, but we should be bouncing back quickly, and find ourselves again in the normal range for early May as we head toward the weekend.
