*Update @ 9:19am... There have been brief rain showers, a rumble or two of thunder, and increasing glimpses of sunshine -- all within the past half hour. The rain gauge total is now 1.74" (4.4cm).
-------------------------------------------------------------
A thundershower is in progress at sunrise this morning, with cloudy skies and a humidity reading of 78%. The current temp of 41.5F (5.3C) is also the overnight low. Although there have been many showers and thundershowers moving through since last evening's report, most of them have been rather brief -- and my rain gauge shows just 0.21" (5mm) since 8:00pm. That brings the total rainfall for this entire storm system up to 1.71" (4.3cm).
The upper-level low pressure circulation which has been responsible for this lengthy bout of ugly weather is now centered right over northern Punjab, and is now weakening rapidly. In fact, it is expected to lose all of its dynamic features by late this afternoon, as it gets overwhelmed by a high pressure ridge rapidly building into Pakistan and northwest India. All the data points to precipitation coming to an end this morning, with perhaps just a few isolated light showers lingering into the afternoon. That means we can say with a good amount of confidence that we are now almost ready to say a hearty 'goodbye' to this latest extended period of wet weather.
The building high pressure ridge I mentioned above will feature some very dramatic warming of atmospheric temperatures during the later part of this week -- not only at the surface, but upward into the middle and higher levels as well. This should provide us with generally stable conditions, with a mix of sunshine and occasional high clouds into early Saturday. There are indications that we could see some afternoon thundershower development both Saturday and Sunday, however.
As long as there isn't too much high cloudiness, our temperatures should make a major upward leap -- most likely into the low 60s (F) for the first time this season. It's about time!
