Skies are partly cloudy this evening at sunset, and it's quite pleasant. Full sunshine this morning gave way to developing cumulus clouds over the mountains as the noon hour approached, which didn't dissipate until the late afternoon. And now, we're starting to see some streaks of cirrus clouds creeping in from the west. Although our temps this afternoon were a couple of degrees warmer than yesterday, we're still not getting very close to normal for early April.
There's kind of a mixed bag of conditions on the way as we head into the weekend. Right now, a building ridge of high pressure in the upper-atmosphere is the main feature -- allowing a surge of warmer air to move in from the south, and keeping things fairly stable. However, the very aggressive warming occurring in the mid- and upper-levels has generated an extensive area of high cloudiness across Afghanistan and Pakistan which will likely affect us tomorrow and possibly into Saturday as well. That means that we may not get the full benefits of this warmer air mass, due to limited sunshine. I do hope the sun manages to somehow hold sway... but at this point I really think the high clouds are going to dominate.
By Sunday afternoon we're going to have to be ready for the arrival of the next upper-level disturbance which is going to increase shower and thundershower chances for the early part of next week. A very mild air mass will be in place, but periods of showers (especially on Monday) will keep us dealing with temperatures much too cool for this time of year.
