i think it's been at least a few weeks since we've had a day with virtually ZERO clouds. i spotted a couple of wimpy cumulus-wannabes over the mountains around 1pm, but they quickly dissipated. anyway, today was DAY ONE of the heatwave that will be with us for the next several days. a ridge of high pressure is building throughout all levels of the atmosphere, allowing the heat to continue its advance into the middle of next week. the only fly in the ointment is a weak upper-level disturbance that will quickly move across kashmir and himachal pradesh late saturday into sunday. that will bring in the possibility of isolated thunderstorms... but at this point, it looks like any thunderstorm activity will be short-lived, and will do little to stifle the heat...
