what a variety of weather we've had today... a few light showers (and some thunder) early this morning, a blast of stunning sunshine between 11am and noon, another brief thundershower shortly after 1pm, another few peeks of sunshine, and then BAM... a huge thunderstorm with heavy rain and some wind which started just after 3pm, and finally ended around 5pm. the official total from near the dalai lama's temple in mcleod ganj was 1.75" (4.5cm).
we're in the midst of a lull in the action again early this evening, but the satellite pics and computer model guidance are showing some ominous signs. a big cluster of thunderstorms is moving east-southeast from pakistan into western kashmir and punjab, and if it holds together, could move into our area after dark. in addition, deep moisture is continuing to surge northwestward, and will fuel a more consistent period of rain from monday through tuesday. this morning's computer models were delaying this surge a bit, but the latest data is back on track with delivering the heaviest rains from tomorrow into early tuesday. if this event truly materializes, then rainfall in excess of 3" (7.5cm) is almost guaranteed. then... expect a return to drier and warmer weather from the middle into the latter part of the week...
