a mid-afternoon thunderstorm dumped the biggest single rainfall of the year this afternoon... with about 2.5" (6.4cm) falling in just 2 hours. combined with some light rain in the morning, that gave us a daily total of 2.65" (6.7cm)... with a good chance of more before the day is done. the high temp at the top of mcleod ganj hit 21c/70f.
satellite pics are fairly active this evening, showing scattered showers and thunderstorms along a line from western kashmir through himachal pradesh and utter anchal, into nepal. much of this activity will die off as the sun sets... but i'm watching for the potential development of an overnight rain/storm complex somewhere in the western himalayas. apart from that, heavy rain chances will remain strong through thursday, as deep tropical moisture and favorable upper-air conditions persist. we've already picked up 5.25" (13.3cm) of rain since friday afternoon, and we could easily double that during the next 72 hours. in between bouts of rain, we'll still see a few glimpses of sunshine, but not enough to dry things out... clouds and fog will always be close behind...
