UP-TO-DATE detailed information on weather conditions affecting mcleod ganj, and the rest of upper dharamsala (including naddi, dharamkot and bhagsu), at the foot of the dhauladar range in himachal pradesh, india. mcleod ganj is the home of the dalai lama, along with around 5,000 tibetan refugees, local indians and resident foreigners. it is also a vacation destination for another several thousand indians and foreigners each year...
The high states 14c while the IMD says 25c.Can someone explain the difference?

it's the difference between lower dharamsala and upper mcleod ganj... which is often 10C or more. dharamsala daytime temps are not at all representative of what is happening up the hill!
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly the minimum temperature seems to be lower in lower dhramsala!!
ReplyDeleteyes...that is a weird phenomenon, isn't it? cold air is more dense and heavy, and often in the winter months the temps are cooler during the nights and early mornings down in the valleys than they are up in the hills.. it gets even more pronounced in january.
ReplyDeleteKen is it also typical at this time of year for it to "feel" MUCH colder when the temp is reading the same?
ReplyDeleteFor example I have a digital thermometer on my clock that is reading the same night time temp in my room as it has the past month. However, in the past week I have had to start wearing double layers, and gloves outside. It FEELS a lot colder!
i think that's because there is less and less sunlight, as we approach the shortest day of the year on the 22nd of december. despite several hours of nice sunshine, it's just so hard to warm up the thin mountain air at this altitude! i'm always freaked out during late novemeber through early feb that it can be so PLEASANT in the direct sun, but so COLD in the shade. clothing formula: layers, layers, layers. :-)
