unseasonable warmth... (pm.2.feb.11)

the day is ending as it began, with lots of sunshine.  in between, we had a few hours of high clouds which were a bit more dense than i was expecting.  despite those clouds, today was the warmest day in mcleod ganj in the past several weeks.  i had a high temp of 61F (16C) which, in the upper part of town, is actually more representative of late february.

warmer than normal temps will continue for the rest of the week... but along with that, we'll be seeing the atmosphere destabilize, which will lead to increasing cloudiness and gradually better and better chances of some rain shower action.  in fact, it looks like we are going to get into an unsettled pattern that will last into early next week.  at this point, it looks like it will be too warm for snow in mcleod ganj, but higher elevations, and places to our north are likely to see accumulating snows off and on from friday until about tuesday...

february bliss... (am.2.feb.11)

it's incredibly mild for an early february morning... 48F (9C) already, and the sun isn't even over the mountain yet.  this bodes well for our afternoon temperatures, especially since we should have pretty close to unlimited sunshine.  these mild temps are now firmly entrenched across northern india, at least this side of the mountains, and won't budge for the next few days.

the next storm system will start to spread some high, thin clouds our way later today, and then bring us a small chance of a few showers starting tomorrow.  the better chance of rain showers will move in over the weekend, and perhaps linger into early next week... but once again, the main effects of this storm will be felt further north in kashmir, (and maybe lahaul and spiti) where significant snow will fall yet again.  of course i'll be updating this space twice a day... and we'll just see if the scenario begins to change for us...

what a gorgeous day... skies were mostly sunny, with the afternoon temp at the wxgeek office topping out at 57F (14C).  it looks like our warming trend will continue for the next few days, with only a few patches of high clouds to dim the sun from time to time.

this fair weather pattern will gradually be replaced by increasing cloudiness and a better chance of a few showers as we approach the weekend, however.  a slow-moving storm system is crossing the persian gulf this afternoon, but is expected to weaken as it moves in our direction.  it doesn't look like a big rain/snow-maker, but it may play spoiler... especially on saturday into sunday.

it's a balmy 45F (7C) here in mcleod ganj early this morning... and my first thought when i saw the temp was that i am going to have to pump up the high temperature forecast for the next few days!  we are really and truly going to be getting a little taste of springtime... and i seriously doubt whether there will be many complaints.

a ridge of high pressure is building in the middle and upper levels of the atmosphere, while a southerly flow kicks in near the surface.  that is the recipe for milder weather, along with a good amount of sunshine... at least until the end of the week.  the next storm system is waiting in the wings, and will gradually make its presence felt with increasing clouds and an increasing chance of showers... from late thursday into sunday.
