MONSOON 2017

The India Met Department is forecasting a 'near normal' monsoon for most of India this season.  Over the years I have noticed that whatever the forecast or final outcome of the monsoon season across the plains of the Indian subcontinent, we nearly always end up with a JUNE - SEPTEMBER total of right around 95 to 100 inches (240 to 255cm) here in McLeod Ganj.  The peak/climax of that massive amount of rain normally occurs between about the second week of July and the third week of August.

The average onset of official monsoon conditions here in our part of Himachal Pradesh is around 27-28 June -- but that is up to the IMD to determine, and can vary up to a couple of weeks in either direction of that date.
